Is Lisbon water safe to drink?

One of the main concerns you possibly have is the water. In case you are wondering if Lisbon water is good, you can relax. Tap water is perfectly safe to drink in Lisbon. And this also aplies to the rest of Portugal.

You may experience a slightly different taste from the water you drink in your country but this is only because the mineral content is different.

Of course, you can always get bottled water if you prefer. Bottled water is available everywhere, from little kiosks to restaurants and all supermarkets.

When you go to a restaurant, you will always be served bottled water since they don't serve you tap water.

The exception is if you only want a glass of water. In this case you can ask for a glass of tap water (PT - "Um copo de įgua, por favor"). The waiter will be glad to serve you one. No charge.

But remember to specifically ask for a glass of tap water otherwise they will try to sell you a bottle.

Bottled water is served both in glass and plastic bottles. If you have a preference, please tell the waiter.
