Lisbon Museums - 
Testimonies of Greatness!


You definitely have to visit some of the marvellous Lisbon Museums available to you throughout the city.

They are indeed testimonies of some of the greatest ages of Portugal and present you with a large variety of collections.

In Lisbon you can find some world-class museums such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.

Also, some of the world's most valuables collections in the National Coach Museum and in the Maritime Museum.

If you like art collections, you can visit the Ancient Art Museum, the Tile Museum.

If you prefer, go to the National Contemporary Art Museum (Chiado Museum), the Gulbenkian's Modern Art Center or Berardo Museum in the Belem Cultural Center.

Learn more about Lisbon in the City Museum or find the origins of the Lisbon song in the Fado Museum.

Don't forget to reserve some time to the Mãe d' Agua Water Museum.

Get lost in the Archaeology Museum and contemplate the extravagance of the Ajuda Palace located in Belem.

Usually overlooked by the travel guides, there are some splendid private collections that are worth a visit like the Medeiros e Almeida Museum and the Anastácio Gonçalves Museum.

Lisbon Carmo Museum Peruvian Mummy.As you will easily see, almost all the churches in Lisbon have some small art collections that are definitly taking a look at.

There is also the Carmo Church with its archaeological museum, the Saint Anthony Church with the life history of the saint and the Saint Roque Church with a splendid sacred art collection.

For your convenience, I'll give a list of the museums you must see and a list of other museums that are equally amazing if you have time.

Remember: You don't have to see them all the first time you come to Lisbon!

Simply choose from the list, read the description, check ou their website and plan the ones you're going to see this time.

Tip. Tip

The tourism office's Lisboa Card gives you free access (or at least a reduced admission) to the majority of the Lisbon museums. Also, some of them have free entrance on Sunday mornings until 14 hours (2 PM).



Lisbon museums you must see

Lisbon Coach Museum.I suggest you start with this list and if you have time go on to the other. The order is not mandatory, of course.

All are marvellous and are worth a visit with some time to enjoy the collections displayed.
